A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 – The handle is invalid

You get this wierd message out of nowhere that keeps appearing again and again.

I had this odd message today on my development machine. These are the errors I really hate! :-(

{"A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - The handle is invalid.)"}

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and run taskmgr as administrator

Find the service for MSSQL (it’s MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS on my machine).

Stop the service and start it again.

Another potential fix I’ve Googled was to disable auto turning of TCP/IP. Personally this didn’t solve my issue.

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

However – ridiculously – the fix that ended up working was a reboot. I never got to the bottom of what caused this issue.
