Burn .iso image to USB on OSX from terminal

Shows the steps required to burn an iso image onto a USB device from the terminal.

1. First find out where your device is located.

diskutil list

In my case the location was /dev/disk1

2. Unmount the disk using the following command. Don’t do this in Finder, it won’t work:

diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk1

3. Finally use dd to put the iso image on the USB:

sudo dd if=/Users/macuser/Downloads/myapp.iso of=/dev/disk1
